Travel – Iceland

So that one time we went to the place that every photographer dreams about…. ICELAND!

We’re going to start this post with what we packed and what we learned right out the gate followed by all the fun imagery so if you want tips continue reading, if you just want pretty pictures and a bomb video, get your scroll on!

When booking a trip to Iceland we checked flight prices, weather and of course a place to stay. Flights are cheap cheap cheap… but that’s pretty much where that notion ends. There’s not a lot of hotels as you move out of the main cities so we looked into either a tour group or a camper van. The tour groups were about 3k-5k but they all mostly just hit the big tourist spots and we didn’t feel that was the way we wanted to do Iceland. So that left us with the camper van (which was admittedly my first choice anyway)! It was about $1500 through campervaniceland for our 8 day stay and we luckily ended up with what seemed like one of the only automatic transmission vans in all of the country. It had wifi, a fold out bed, cooking equipment and a little table and chairs… honestly adorable.

Steven & Abigail – Iceland Photo Session

So this was one of those moments in life that I pinched myself daily to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. A few weeks before leaving for our trip to see my brother in Europe we get an email from Abigail & Steven asking about an Iceland photo shoot. They were having their one year anniversary and doing it in photographers paradise. Another photographer referred them our way and we were so beyond honored to be the pair booked to create their memories. I jumped up and down while I booked our campervan to wander black sand beaches and waterfalls with them. We picked a meet up spot at a campsite in a park and on the day of, nervously hugged in a parking lot. Thankfully we immediately hit it off. They are so down to earth and being photographers and videographers themselves out of Texas (you can find their work here) they were just as excited to play in the landscape as we were. Scroll below to see all the good stuff and stayed tuned for a post later this week with tips on traveling to and in Iceland!

Diana & Corey – Rollins Engagement

OMG Diana & Corey. These two are such genuine people and are just naturally adorable together. We laughed so much between funny dog moments and odd champagne spraying positions it was too much fun. And speaking of dogs I’m definitely a slight obsessed with their super cute corgi who got to be a part of their rollins engagement. Congrats you crazy kids and we’re so excited for you to become Mr. & Mrs in Colombia next year!

Richard & Bryce – Winter Park Racquet Club Wedding

Richard & Bryce are two of the sweetest, smartest and as Instagram knows… good looking humans around. But well beyond their attributes apart together they are a power couple and the way they look at each other makes anyone nearby get all mushy! The pair live in Chicago but managed to plan all the incredible details for their Winter Park Racquet Club wedding from afar. The day included beautiful floral signage, matching tuxes, a fabulous Mr. & Mr. cake, tears, laughter and the party of the century. Did I mention that said party got kicked off with drag queen extraordinaire Mr. Ms. Adrien?! Check out all the fun below!

Sue Bryce Fashion Workshop

A Paris Chateau with Sue Bryce

Sue Bryce Paris  | French Chateau workshop

This day last year I was in France at day two of a Sue Bryce workshop. If you don’t know who she is, she’s one of the photography gods known around the world for her women’s portraiture. She grew an empire based on providing women the strength and knowledge that they deserve to be professionally photographed more than just twice in a lifetime (wedding/baby). To know they’re just as beautiful at 55 as they are at 25 and that taking a day for yourself to create a piece of your history is beyond words worth it.

I had never done a workshop before but in my head it was a pilgrimage. A trip to the last place I’d visited with my mom. We had left France short during her cancer battle and I needed to finish that journey. I could think of no better way than to re-write the end of that story with a french chateau of artists letting their hearts lead them. It felt almost Renaissance-esk. From Sue’s warm inviting smile to the styling throughout the entire estate, no moment or teaching opportunity was overlooked. I definitely laughed, I definitely grew as an artist, I petted Sue’s dog more than what is probably appropriate and I may or may not have teared up like a baby on the last day. A Look Back at 2016

Well 2016 is over and looking back we had one heck of a year. It included 35 weddings photographed and 23 weddings filmed for our Lemus duo. We had a melting pot of clients including Korean, Indian and gay (this was our favorite thing that evolved this year). We traveled for work or play to Paris, Vegas, Colorado, Chicago, Mexico, Croatia, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, St Thomas, Italy and Slovenia. Cat changed her hair color 10 times, Mike shaved his beard once and the dogs acquired 4 new seasonal costumes.

Here’s a look back at some of our fav imagery of 2016 and loving the excitement it creates for 2017!!

Rose & Brandon – Clermont Engagement

It’s always an honor to be chosen by fellow artists to be their wedding day photographer and this is no absolutely exception. Brandon & Rose run a photo and video company on the west coast of Florida (check them out HERE) and do a fabulous job so having them as clients I knew we’d have a good time! Rose requested an engagement location that didn’t look like Florida and thankfully having been a cyclist at one point I just knew where we had to venture to. I put on my explorer hat the week before the session and went in search for new territory. What we found was AMAZING and you can see how we accomplished a non-Florida feel with their Clermont engagement session!
