Kelly and Jonathan are one of my favorite couples of all time. They are super fun and I had a feeling based on their beautiful proposal video and our engagement session together that documenting their amazing love story was important to them. So during planning when she said the best and most dangerous phrase ever… “photos are really important to us, how much time do we need?” I did a happy dance. For me, this is essentially letting the genie out of the lamp and it was a blast wandering the grounds of the gorgeous together at their gorgeous St Andrews chapel wedding. Their day had fun and romance and laughter and hugs and I was so so happy that they let me capture all of it!
When I asked her to talk about her day this is what she had to say…
“When I look back on my wedding day, there really isn’t anything I would change. I’m not exaggerating when I say it was the most amazing day of my life. I got some great advice ahead of our big day when people told me to try to take in each moment and that’s something I tried to do throughout the wedding day. I don’t think you could have wiped the smile off my face as I was so happy to be marrying my best friend. One of my favorite memories from the day was walking down the aisle. Our church had a VERY long aisle but it allowed me the chance to look around and try to see all of the faces who were there to celebrate with us. It truly was one of those “This is Your Life” moments and I realized how blessed Jon and I are to have so many people in our lives who love and support us. I also got to do that and then focus on my husband at the very end which was the BEST part. We didn’t do a first look as we wanted the first time that Jon saw me to be as I walked down the aisle, but we did take the opportunity for a “first touch” where we held hands and exchanged gifts without seeing one another. I would definitely recommend doing that as it helped ease both of us before the big moment and it’s something that I won’t ever forget, even though I did give away my husband’s gift because I thought he had already opened it! Oops!! But that is a perfect example that not everything will go according to plan on the day. Little details will fall through and some things will get altered, like our first dance was moved back in the timeline because we had a video that was going to play and the screen was far from the tables where people sat, etc. Don’t sweat any of those small things! The biggest thing is to consciously seek out moments, just the two of you, to appreciate the day. We had a little time after lighting our unity candle during our ceremony to look out at all of our loved ones and when we sat down at our sweetheart table, Jon and I just tried to soak in the moment of all the work we had done to prepare for this day. And everything looked even more beautiful than I could have imagined! The day really does go by fast so don’t hesitate to try to slow it down when possible.
We also had such an amazing photographer in Cat who helped us to capture every moment of the day! It was such a fun experience and I am so grateful to all of the amazing vendors that we had who helped me to make my dream vision of my wedding day happen. I know it’s not easy during the planning process at times but try not to stress too much and when the day finally arrives, just enjoy it! You won’t remember all of the detail things that you focused so much on in the months ahead of time. What you will remember are those special memories you make with your loved ones which some for me were dancing with my grandma & grandpa and seeing the look on my dad’s face when he first saw me in my dress. Your wedding day will be amazing and the best part is that at the end of it, you will be married to your best friend! It’s awesome!! :)”
